Sunday Set List Confessional 12.20.08

What a morning!  What a weekend!  I’m bushed but it’s not over yet.  I’ve still got to do the Christmas Concert tonight and since I have a few minutes I figured I’d share about this morning’s service.

It had been a long day yesterday trying to get back to normal after visiting my uncle in the hospital and then finding our truck, which had been parked in the parking structure at the hospital, had been broken into and my husbands iphone stolen.  By the time we caught our breath I was off to the Christmas Concert dress rehearsal last night and then up until early this morning ironing out some Sunday Service details and uploading the church website.

Yep, I’m bushed and mentally frayed.  I spent some time with Jesus before the service this morning, but still I had some residual effects lingering.  I knew it was gonna be a rough one when I realized I had made a bad error on the bulletins and had to print out another 130 and fold them before service started.

That was the beginning of a number of errors I would make before the service was over.

It being the final Sunday before Christmas my husband had chosen to teach a sermon titled, Christmas a Memorial of Miracles, using The Festival of Lights or Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah) as his focus.

Hanukkah and the miracle of the oil in the Lamp-stand that lasted eight days prompted me to focus on God’s eternal nature and Christ’s Light in our lives when planning the worship set list.

Our CALL TO WORSHIP began with Everlasting God/Brenton Brown.  A great start and I was so encouraged by the words, lifted out of all the ’stuff’ I had brought with me.  Great…

The next couple of songs went ok except for some minor gaff’s on my part with chords.  Shine on My Life/ Scott Cunningham and a medley of Here I Am to Worship/Chris Tomlin and O Come All Ye Faithful which was so awesome.  A great combo for Christmas that the congregation really responds to with great enthusiasm.

The last song in the opening set was O Praise Him/ David Crowder.  I expected to hear more of that great enthusiasm which I quickly realized was missing.  Then it hits me that the powerpoint was a-miss and I stepped in and queued the congregation through the balance of the song.  Everything went fine, except I couldn’t shake that feeling that I had blown the ppt sequence somehow when I prepared it at 2am.  That made way for a big distraction for me and I just couldn’t wait to get off that platform.  UGH!

THE MESSAGE was wonderful and I returned to the platform heart ready and mind on Him.  First came Christmas Offering/ Paul Baloche and Lord I lift Your Name on High/ Rick Founds.  Christmas Offering was perfect for the OFFERTORY, especially tied into what Pastor had preached.  And, the last round of the final chorus of Lord I Lift Your Name on High was perfect!
